Also oil will always be wanted to fuel things like aircraft, cars and boats.
And unless LENR/cold fusion turn out to be a doable thing, which I would have imagined it would have been by now if it were possible, I imagine the big economic collapse will be when oil starts getting expensive.
Imagine oil costing $50 a gallon - it's very possible once oil gets scarce enough that people have to start simply doing without. That sort of expense will put a major hole in your budget, and make those who control the oil even more super wealthy than they already are. -
