see here is the issue, I'm dealing with people who know NOTHING about me but act as they know they "everything"
I have been doing video editing since 2008.
Video editing can mean anything, in my case it's home movies and the occasional AMV.
Also I have stated several times in this thread that I am not concerned with graphics and the point of my machine will be CODING and MAKING MUSIC.
I know exactly what I need and what I don't, which is exactly why I'm suggesting getting multiple computers so one can do the heavy lifting in the background while the other is reserved for general use, that why I will never experience lag.
I will be doing file archiving practically all the time, and video rendering every week so I this is necessary.
Now the real question is, would an i7 be enough that the lag wouldn't be that perceivable?
I recall the machine I built in 2013 that had an i7 was really damn fast, and I don't really remember if it slowed down while I was rendering videos or not.
This whole discussion is because I want to abandon windows and linux (which are vastly inferior platforms) and move to Mac OS.
I want a better operating system and user experience. -

$1300 for a 3GHz Core i5 and 8GB of ram. Thats worse than the 3.3Ghz i5-2500k rig i had built back in 2011, and i payed Cyberpower 1100 for that. So theyre only 8 years behind and a few hundred over. Im getting ready to sell the aforementioned computer, and ill probably list it at $600 tops.

I had an i7 before (I built a desktop back in 2013 before I became homeless) and while I noticed a major improvement in performance over anything I had used before I did notice that it still slowed down while rendering video files.
My idea was that even if the iMac with the dual core i5 is technically underpowered by today's standards, the overall experience would be perceivably better than an i7 because the Mac mini would be doing all the heavy lifting in the background. -

The PC I built in 2013 costed as much as a mac, sans the gpu.
The whole "macs are overpriced" argument is outdated and no longer applies
macs are no longer behind windows desktops in terms of performance and they are no longer vastly overpriced
there is literally no reason to not use a mac now -

Macs are no different from building your own except they use integrated graphics as the default instead of a high end graphics card.
You'll end up paying around the same if you build your own or buy from a company like lenovo or whoever. -

I have heard recently about thermal throttling and I'm not exactly sure what that is, but I have my assumptions.
So lets say I am running a 3.2ghz i7 with six cores and I'm rendering a video at the moment, the fan is running and the computer is being put to the task, would that CPU be fine for other use or would it make more sense to have a separate computer for rendering. -
