I've seen it mentioned that there's a common trait among aspies where if a subject doesn't interest us we find it impossible to pay attention. Exactly how I feel about math and other subjects. Of course, when there's genuine interest, especially a high level, fascination, bam, full aspie powers unlocked and unleashed.
Also, I wasn't kidding about the difference Nardil made, beginning to really recover from depression for so long. I really am getting back my old self, my ability, being able to actually utilize my cognition, my strengths, more of the power my mind/brain has.
It's pretty undeniable right? There's an immense different in the post length I can churn out. Of course you guys won't consider this something positive, but it certainly is for university, of course the writing style and quality would be very different than casual unedited stream of consciousness posts on a message board.
This is kind of cool. I'd really like to see just how far I can go, develop myself. The justifications for taking mathematics are absolutely false, there are critical flaws in the idea people have of its actual value to the vast majority. Sploo, you will like this. Translation: An attempt at rationalization and self-delusion to avoid accepting that I'm simply stupid and intellectually lazy.
#1) It does not teach you "how to think". This is related to the concept of the transfer of learning, which is part of the field of study of education. Unfortunately so few people are familiar with this term, ever come across it, when it's necessary to know in order to be able to locate the relevant research/papers. It's been studied for so long, it isn't a new concept at all. The answer is absolutely clear, learning in general is highly specific and does not transfer.
Not only that, but there are classes in the field of philosophy that essentially do specifically teach you this, and they're far far superior. They're the series of classes on logic.
#2) The vast majority of people do not use math beyond a basic level at their occupation. Easy research. IIRC the percentage who did was only around 5%, and of course that doesn't tell you just how advanced the math they used is. Many likely don't utilize any beyond fairly basic algebra.

Long term retention is incredibly poor, especially if you never use it IRL. If you don't at least think about, or read about it.
If something you learned in university isn't a regular part of your life in some manner, if you never utilize it, it doesn't cross your mind, for the vast majority of people (Of course there's always variation in memory (e.g. me)).
There's a large amount of research on this and the results are clear and consistent, particularly with the learning style most students utilize, commonly referred to as "cramming".
#4) Genuine grasp as opposed to simple rote memorization and regurgitation.
Once again, researched. No, the vast majority of students/graduates do not have a genuine grasp of mathematics and are completely unable to apply it in a manner where it could actually be utilized IRL, demonstrate a fundamental understand, a grasp of the underlying logic.
/end list. There may have been something I missed, but these are the most important items. Do they genuinely understand it? Do they use it? Does it teach you "how to think"? Do they even remember it? Then what the fuck is the point? It's a genuine question. It's absolutely useless, an unbelievable waste of time and resources that contributes to the incredibly harmful effects of the current higher education system on society and individuals.
So, essentially, I genuinely believe that the vast majority of mathematics should not be a requirement for most people, even for general ed. Of course the obvious exception is the stem field, fields of study that specifically involve it and lead to careers that utilize it as a key part of the occupation. This is just obvious.
The vast majority of people (data available) do not enjoy mathematics or have an affinity for it. Completely unsurprising since it's so out of alignment with our evolutionary history. Most simply do not have the genetic/biological/neurological makeup, the personality and cognitive traits, cognitive style.
Now, as such a strong hyper-systemizer, an aspie, why wouldn't I be able to grasp it. No, I could, and I have, when needed; far above the level of of the average student (Nothing to brag about, not as if it's difficult), grasping it far faster. In elementary I would consistently score extremely high, the 99th percentile, on the yearly standardized test, the Stanford 9, and of course regular assignments and tests were no problem.
The answer is fairly simple: I don't feel any affinity toward it, I don't enjoy it all, have an interest in it, and I have no need for it, it has no practical value in my life. I find it incredibly tedious, repetitive, painfully, unbearably, boring. Most of the bullshit classes, mandatory classes that have nothing to do with your major, are already enough of a slog, but I find math to, by far, be the worst slog of all.
I literally never tried once I entered middle school. Although, amusingly, during one year we spent regular time in the computer class doing math assignments there and I managed to, by far, be at the top of the class. My best friend was in there too and he was smart as hell (Couldn't beat my performance in elementary, of course). Far more well rounded, knowledgeable/well read, functional, and driven, than I was. I was the really eccentric slacker type who followed his own independednt interests.
Once I entered high school I recall I genuinely, no exaggeration, refused to pay attention, read or study the book, or do any work at all, because I found it so excruciatingly dull and uninteresting. Of course I'm not going to know shit if I did this and never independently studied the subject, how on earth could I?
Now, one exception, at least, is statistics. This is an absolutely critical subject to study and fully grasp; as in have it memorized, read books multiple times until it's ingrained. It is absolutely necessary for logic, rational analysis, to be able to fully understand studies/papers/research, the data, spot any flaws, understand what's being conveyed, the methods and crucial results.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

1. Drive in the appropriate lane. The lane farthest left is the fast lane (in the US). I don't care if you're doing 90 in a 35 zone, if someone comes up behind you, move into the slow lane and let them by. Do not stay in the fast lane because "they shouldn't be going that fast anyway." You are not the police. It is not your job to tell people how fast they should be going. That person could be rushing a stabbing victim to the hospital for all you know. Or they might just want more beer. It's none of your fucking business either way. Move.
2. If you can't maintain a speed greater than 5 below the speed limit on a two lane road, you should not be driving. I don't care how much you value your independence. I don't care if you're driving some piece of shit moped. Either get off the road, find a different way with lower speed limits or more lanes, or, if you absolutely must go that way, pull over into the shoulder and let people by if a train of cars is forming behind you.
3. Put on your turn signal before you hit the brakes. If you randomly hit the brakes and then put on your turn signal 2 seconds before your turn, you might as well have not even signaled. That's like flushing the toilet before you take a shit; it's maddeningly unhelpful and the person behind you will not be pleased.
4. The shoulder does not magically become a driving lane on a crowded interstate unless you are emergency services. Not only does it make congestion worse, but you very well could cost someone their life if an ambulance can't get through. All just to save a few minutes.
5. Driving 2 inches from my rear bumper on a two lane road does not magically make the person in front of me go faster. Don't fucking do it unless you are desperate for higher insurance payments.
6. At a 4-way stop, the person that stops at the sign first goes first. Glancing around to make sure nobody is moving, then cruising through the stop sign is not acceptable. If there is no one on any side of the 4-way stop except you, feel free to cruise through if you're willing to risk a ticket.
7. The double-yellow line is not a suggestion. Don't fucking cross it.
8. Those dotted white lines on a 4 (or more) lane road are not suggestions. Unless you're changing lanes, don't fucking cross them.
9. A green traffic light means "Go."
Not "finish your text and go." Not "find whatever you're digging in between your seats for and then go." Not "finish smacking your children and then go." It means "Go. Now. "
10. Don't stop 2 inches behind a driver at a red light on a steep hill. Keep your distance. If that person is driving a manual transmission and rolls backwards into you, guess who's getting blamed?
11. If you're driving and somebody begins to pass you, do not speed up just to prevent them from passing you. If you're actually going to continue going faster, fine. But if you immediately slow down right after that driver pulls in behind you, and then speed back up when they attempt to pass you again, you need to kill yourself in the most painful way possible. There is no fucking reason for this. Ever. All I can do is pray to God that this doesn't happen in other states/countries, because this is literally one of the stupidest and most maddening things I've ever seen, and I see it all the time. I can't even begin to understand why people do this.
