2019-02-19 at 1:16 PM UTC in Anyone here looking to accumulate wealth rapidly?I assure you, this is no get rich quick scheme.
Basically, you all send me some money, and then I issue pieces of paper to you that are legally binding promises for more money at a later date.
I then invest all this money, and then pay out on those promissory notes with the dividends.
Everybody wins.
If you're looking to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity, please wire $20,000 to the transit and routing numbers that will follow shortly. -

I used to appreciate moderators who would help prevent discussion derailment, move off-topic posts and punish repeat offenders. But Lanny can't be here 24/7 to play janitor. People will post off topic bullshit in almost every thread, and usually nothing will be done about it. But maybe it's better that way. Don't feed the trolls and the shit will sink and the cream will rise to the top. The truth, the posts, that really matter will shine through the bullshit and if your topic doesn't maybe that's because it's just more bullshit.
Anyway… I don't think Lanny actually had to do anything. He did, and this is his website, so we have to deal with that. But he didn't have to do anything at all.
And implementing the ability to ignore or block specific users might have been a better choice.
Clearly you get it.
A lot of people don't realize that having an INTERNET FORUM is a privilege, not a right.
Free speech applies to EVERYONE, but posting on an Internet forum means you are not only speaking on behalf of yourself, but also on behalf of whomever is providing you with the pulpit to speak from.
Thus, the one providing the pulpit has to make discretionary decisions.
Lanny did EXACTLY that, and he was not in the wrong with how he did it. -

Originally posted by DietPiano I literally don't personally know a single person who habitually use cannabis (more than once every other week, on average) who I consider to be "successful". This isn't true for alcohol, cocaine, even dope and meth.

Weed is wurst.
Same here. Never seen a truly "successful" pothead (and wrapping it in quotes is decent, because so-called "success" is subjective).
Originally posted by DietPiano Crouton is like weed, but isn't exclusively for unsuccessful people.

Crouton is the best background drug. Besides Vicodin.
DietPiano, I'm gonna say, and don't take this the wrong way at all, BE CAREFUL WITH OPIATES... Even Crouton.
Have fun, sow your oats, by all means.
But just bear in mind the following...
I used to think opiates were no big deal. I could do heroin one night (snorting it, not IV... YET), and then not even think about it for months.
The thing is, that eventually catches up with you and addiction sets in weeks before you even realize it.
I'm not throwing that out there to be a buzz kill, but because I know from personal experience that we all have blindspots, and one of mine was the addictive potential of opiates/opioids.
They are fun as fuck, absolutely, but NOTHING in life is free. -

2019-02-19 at 9:14 PM UTC in The Day Drinking ThreadSo I'm day drinking again today (NOTE for backstory/context: I drink every night, but relatively rarely during the day).
And I feel that one thing we need in SG is an official Day Drinking Thread.
Bump this shit right here every time you're drunk during the day.
Also, because I'm an equal opportunity kinda guy, I do want to say "bump it if you're high" as well, but... I feel like weed might ruin that, because most stoners are stoned all the time (I speak from experience - used to be one). When taking that into consideration, this entire site should just be a "Day Drunk/HighThreadForum".
But if it's an atypical occasion for you to be under the influence of, well, anything... Then come on in and join the party. -

2019-02-19 at 10:35 AM UTC in What type of pipes are these?Whatever they are, look look kinda cool.
Are they yours? Did you find them at a yard sale or thrift shop or something?
For some reason opium pipe pops into my mind, but it might just be the Asian looking design (especially the dragons - i.e. "chasing the dragon").
But, despite the fact I have done all kinds of opiates/opioids, including straight up (opium) poppy pod tea, I have never actually smoked opium itself, so I don't know for sure. -

Funny you should mention that...
I have a project in the works right now that is basically a set of AI "chatbots" (the term can apply to Internet forums as well) that are trained using actual posts from frequent posters... And finny is among them.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I don't much like Finny posts for the most part... ESPECIALLY as of late. But he was at least somewhat unique and entertaining at one time.
The sad fact, though, is that because all of his posts now are IDENTICAL, if I feed them into the mix, it will basically just result in a bot that says the exact same thing over and over again, and, I really can't see how that could be anything but incredibly boring. -

2019-02-18 at 7:51 AM UTC in It's a good thing tumbleweeds and the sound of crickets is so valuable a commodityBecause this town gets kinda calm at certain times of day / days of the week.
I have a solution to propose, though...
We need a DH sequel. And I volunteer my time to contribute to this particular endeavor ON THE CONDITION THAT others are not only on board, but some might even help in this regard.
I've been sitting here kinda just contemplating what it might take to accomplish this goal, and have arrived at some condensed nuggets of information that kinda summarize the general issues at play here...
1) Totse absolutely thrived during certain periods, and so it offers us an example we can emulate.
1A) As a result of the relative obscurity of the forum, combined with the fact that it has been shut down for years as of today, due to the natural aging process, many of the original posters have simply lost interest / moved on / died / gone to jail / started cults on a Caribbean island (lol not actually, but almost believable for Totse alumni).
1BI) We need to attract a younger cohort.
1BII) We also might need to consider hosting text files (the logistics can be worked out in this thread or elsewhere, or completely ignored, but it ultimately was how I personally found Totse, and a few people I've met in real life who have mentioned Totse knew about the text files (just not about the forums)).
2) ...
Ah, forget about this whole numbering scheme. I'm losing track of the nested back and forth.
But yeah, who else is with me?
Let's start by approaching the initial things mentioned above.
Should we start compiling an information resource much like Totse was? Note that it does not necessarily need to be hosted on the same servers, or on the same domain even, etc, etc... The logistics can be handled in many different ways.
Any other suggestions? -
