Actually I'll just kind of throw together a bit of chronology/timeline:
2008: I enroll in some high school night classes.
2009: I start taking some first year uni classes as well.
2010: I'm done the high school classes and am now exclusively taking uni classes. Also, my heroin use starts increasing, but it's still not an every day thing yet.
2012: I'm about wrapping up my final credits. I also start working in a (cognitive psychology) research lab and doing an honors thesis. I'm also deciding which grad schools to apply at. I also end up switching to IV heroin, and am using pretty much every day at this point.
2013: I get my B.A. I also make the switch to (prescribed) methadone.
2014: Mostly a blur until winter time, which is when I make the executive decision to wean myself off methadone rather quickly, and use heroin to help taper (irony levels over 9000). December of 2014 was my last time using any opiates whatsoever.
2015: Working odd jobs, living out of a van. Later in the year I start teaching myself to code.
2016: Move into an apartment and keep learning and coding.
2018: Manage to stumble into a paid gig.

There have been a few different ones for me, like quitting opiates and staying off them for years, finishing my bachelor's degree while smack dab in the throes of heroin addiction, etc.
More recently, though, would be when I got my first paid software developer job. It was kind of surreal since it was the culmination of years of hard work and dedication and, most importantly, a lot of self-monitored and self-motivated learning.
I've discovered over the years the power of setting one's sights on a goal and just straight up ignoring all the negative talk (from both self and others), and all the overwhelming examples of people who just gave up and labeled certain things impossible.
It's the reason I have such resilient optimism regarding the future. I've come this far, why can't I go even further?

Well, I technically did write a "notifications" script... of sorts...
It detected any new post (checking on like an every second or every 5 seconds kind of cycle), and automatically responded with "THE ABOVE POSTER IS A CERTIFIED FAGGOT".
Instead of just calling everybody a faggot, I could have modified like one single line of code and had it send push notifications to email, SMS, or even Android/iOS directly (a little bit more involved, but definitely feasible).
So basically, I could have notifications if I wanted them...

Salvia: This was around 2006/2007. I bought some salvia from this store in East Vancouver. It was a hippie shop that had an upstairs that sold some technically illegal drugs. They weren't like out in the open or anything like that, you had to ask for them by name. I was super curious to try it, and had nobody around with me, so I took a hit in my bedroom and was absolutely floored by the whole thing. I don't even think I "broke through", as they say, but it was still pretty fucking intense. I remember posting on Totse about it literally right after.
