So I invited my buddy to play on the server, we went to the nether and found a fortress, got tons of loot but he lost his half falling into the lava... I managed to get out alive (barely) and now I got an enderchest once again. also got the soul sand so I can start on those XP farms. My buddy is going to build one using the 4th spawner I found. Once I have god-gear I think I'll build a glazed terracotta palace.

It's good when you can actually build. I've built ancient Chinese cities and long fancy bridges and real life buildings before. But it's impossible to do anything actually good in survival. You need dat flying otherwise you're building 10000 scaffolding.
I think I built a pretty good base plus an xp farm all in survival. It's not impossible just more rewarding.
I will probably abandon the surface world on this server though. Build a bunker somewhere instead.

I like survival. The base I built in survival took effort and feels like an accomplishment and is useful. The same base in creative would take like 10 minutes to build and serve no purpose.
