I had ONE, ONE real-life friend I introduced to Totse. He posted for a few days, but, sadly, he OD'd only a few weeks later.
His username was: 3XP3RIM3NT4L or some variation on that.
So, technically that is another Totsean lost to drug overdose.
He was an awesome guy, and there's a reason I introduced him, and only him, throughout my entire life, to Totse. I had tons of friends IRL, and I kept Totse as a secret haven away from them for ever.
But I introduced that one friend.

I built a couple of high end gaming computers for my girlfriend and I with my surplus money about a year before altcoin mining exploded. Last May I decided to begin mining with 3 GPUs and I gambled all of the profits on a coin called Antshares at the price of around $6. Antshares was rebranded as NEO, and became a top 10 cryptocurrency in less than a year. I won't sell for the foreseeable future, but I'd be sad to cash out with less than six figures. Staggering return for running a program in the background 24/7 and paying twice the power bill. I think for a few years into the future GPUs will continue to print money. After stumbling into this dumb luck, I've become keen on searching for other good investments as a hobby. Fuck getting a real job if I never have to.
I also spend a lot of my time trying to figure out where to move to. I'm thinking about leaving the US after the phd. I could move just about anywhere I wanted with my girlfriend. Any country will take phds in their 20s. You were around for pretty much the entire thing as well, so I'm surprised you've got the timeline and events so wrong. You don't remember being on Tinychat with me and Unwyred, and me telling you everything after I got back? There was no buttsex discussed. It would be an entire year until I had true buttsex.
If you have questions I'll answer them, but I'm not typing up a whole story again.
I was initially going to hitchhike for around a month until I realized I didn't like doing it alone. You mentioned the company of good people. Try being totally alone. I wasn't about to put myself through that in the name of 'adventure.' It's emotionally and physically draining. Especially worrying about where you're going to sleep for the night. I'm glad I had the option to not be forced into that kind of life.
It's still cool though, because I know I have the ability to get anywhere I want with absolutely nothing. It gave me a lot of confidence. Like when I got stuck in Taiwan I wasn't like "FUCK WHAT AM I GONNA DO THE BUSSES STOPPED RUNNING AND I HAVE NO SERVICE" it was just like, the next step in solving my problem. One of my favorite things to do when I'm somewhere new is to get lost and wander now. I fucking LOVE being lost, because that means I get to be active and problem solve and discover new places along the way. -
