I know in the US having a car is culturally an important thing but it's a totally unnecessary cost if you live close to work and everything you need is within walking (/bike) or train distance. I could post mandatory registration/insurance costs here if you want, it's fucking absurd. cost of living in general is, and most people would rather spend the money on holidays, overpriced wine and fancy dinners. it's mostly cat stuff, knives and electronic hardware for me -
