Reverse that situation. If you become a tiny bit political, and refuse the Chinese government the ability to use you for propaganda, they will state you are hostile to their system OR undeclared US government.
They will say you are trying to undermine the government or spreading foreign influence to erode confidence in the government.
And they will deport you, or arrest you for espionage, or prevent you being allowed in public because you are a threat to social order. No more university, no more job, no way to support yourself. You would have to leave. -

Everyone here would think you were red (just look at TV and how China is being military at America and hanging out with Russia and North Korea) and in China they would think you were CIA.
It's a lose lose situation.
No one would trust you. In America they would think you were a Chinese spy, and in China, they would never trust you.

If facts are slightly misrepresented, everything is the fault of the jedis, and the jedis run America.
The Soviets tried to use the 'stealing of land' and 'jedis hate Muslims' to unite the Arab world against America via indoctrination and brainwashing/propaganda. By blaming Israel instead of naming America.
So people who want you to blame the jedis are working to create conditions to enable the influence, implementation, or adoption of the foreign policy of Russia, Iran and Hezbollah. They are going after America.
That's their propaganda aim.
