Originally posted by Lanny I think they typically do. I mean I don't have any hard data at hand but do you not think there's a definite rightward bent in self identified "transhumanist" communities?
Not really, it just manifests in different ways in different groups... fully automated luxury gay space communism is transhumanist af. -

It kind of does - I remember reading a while back that species today are going extinct at a rate similar to those we believe the planet experienced in previous mass extinction events. What if we are become death, destroyers of worlds? -

Trilobytes were around for hundreds of millions of years. They aren't here anymore.
It'd take a fuck up of proportions we have evidence for occurring multiple times throughout history. -

Pretty much this. The faster you can accelerate a thing, the more likely humanity is to kill itself. Even if FTL is only possible in science fiction, I can see our species creating some pretty devastating shit along these lines. -

I'm not sure how I feel about calling the effects of delirium caused by amanita or datura or even DPH a "high". They're psychoactive, sure, but seriously... why would you do that to yourself? -

Originally posted by 霍比特人说中文不好 I don't keep up with hollywood shit whatsoever. I don't know who Spacey is or what happened to him. I just liked the stories of Louis CK because they're so fitting.
Kevin Spacey got accused of molesting some young men.
Originally posted by 霍比特人说中文不好 So, society should say it's wrong, you say. You think he should be charged??? For what? You've either sexually assaulted someone or you haven't. The biggest mistake here in my eyes is that he had no discretion with who he did it to. He should've just hired some hookers. There are way worse things in life than seeing Louis CK naked, though there certainly are much better things.
I don't think people should be charged with assault for spitting on people. I don't necessarily agree with the existing laws like that. I'm not saying he should be charged, I'm just saying that not charging him might actually be less consistent behavior than charging him - the reaction to this shit is totally in line with how society has behaved up until now, so why do you even fucking care? If he spat on one of these girls last night and he got charged with assault, you wouldn't be defending him as viscerally as you are over this.
PS, just pointing out some irony:These woman needed to be stronger and say no. All this feminism in the world but people still want to make women out to be these weak little shits.

Originally posted by 霍比特人说中文不好 I believe they felt like it. I also believe they're victimizing themselves. Seriously, grow a set. I've had worse happen to me and I don't feel victimized in the slightest.
I don't disagree with the self-victimization angle, but shit. I've had worse happen to me for sure, even sexually, and I don't give a shit. But if I acknowledge that shit happened and a large chunk of society tells me it was wrong, why isn't what that person did to me wrong? I may be okay with it, but I wouldn't be okay with the same thing happening to someone else because they aren't me.
Some people are okay with taking a punch or a full on beating, some people get folks charged with assault for spitting on them or slapping them. How is this any different than that? You'd be okay with it, someone else wouldn't. It's not about you, it's about protecting the people who aren't as strong as you. There are male victims of sexual assault talking out too (see: Spacey), so it's not even a "oh, won't someone please think of the women" argument. -

Originally posted by 霍比特人说中文不好 Except that isn't at all what happened. Not even close.
From Louis' perspective it wouldn't be, no. 2 women fronted a show for him, they all went out for drinks after, and he invited them back to his place and asked if he could jerk off to/in front of them.* Is it so hard to believe those women felt like the question I asked you made you feel initially when you said that wasn't even close to what happened?
* I read about this shit at some point in the last 48 hours and some of my details may be off but I remember a story to that effect. -

Originally posted by jedi.Goldstein This is the sort of shit I could equally argue for or against, and convince the likes of §m£ÂgØL I was dead right either way.
Originally posted by HTS I'm not saying if "what if he straight up offered to advance careers", I'm saying what if he just asked for money and the people present felt the implication was that their careers could stagnate if they didn't pony up? There's no specific point that you decide that sex can't possibly be uncoerced, but if people later say they felt coerced it isn't automatically invalidated because they ended up consenting to whatever they claim they felt coerced to do.
Listen and believe, shitlord. Or like, at least remember it's not necessarily that anyone's lying or being weak, and there's a chance that it's all just valid and conflicting feelings about something that happened. You don't have to mean to hurt someone to end up hurting someone etc. That's how it seems from Louis' response too - he didn't necessarily think it was going to make anyone uncomfortable, but he accepts that he did.
To put this in perspective §m£ÂgØL, imagine you went out with the CEO of a publishing company for drinks after a long day of writing and spent an entire evening talking about writing and where you saw your career as a writer heading and they invited you back to their place for drinks and then asked if they could masturbate in front of you/to you.
How would you take that request? I mean I'm reasonably sure you'd say no, but just being asked would feel coercive as fuck neh? -
