Spam "bing chilling" anytime you see an Asian and make sure to say it IRL whenever you see one to trigger them.Bing Chilling" is starting to feel like the new "Ching Chong".
Questions & Discussion
Has anyone else realized this? This phrase has started to appear often on images/videos involving ANY East/Southeast Asian person, not just someone of Chinese ethnicity. Such comments are highly upvoted and repeated as well, and many find it "funny". It's also becoming common outside of Reddit.
Some Asian schoolchildren? "bing chilling." Asian products? "bing chilling." Asian celebrity? "bing chilling." An Asian looking guy making a video? "bing chilling." At this point, it feels like the latest dog whistle to normalize racism against Asians, like how is "bing chilling" not the same as "ching chong?" These are both mockeries of the Chinese language used to make fun of Chinese people, and by a wider extension, East and Southeast Asians in general.
I've heard people justify this by claiming it was directed at the Chinese government or John Cena. If so, why are you using it against ANY Chinese or Asian person that they come across, including in a non-political context? -

😑🍚🇨🇳🌾⛩️🍜🏮🐉🐼🥢🥠愛🐼😑The way my kids and I have been encountering it, "bing chilling" is 100% being used to mock or at least call out anyone who looks East Asian, and being used by bullies who are blatantly attempting to ostracize or troll or even start a fight. "Emotional damage" seems to be being (over)used in context and not particularly directed at Asians, just a silly term thrown around, taken from what has become a mainstream meme.

2024-04-04 at 8:54 AM UTC"冰淇淋 = ice cream.
Pinyin: Bing1 Qi2 Lin2
If you can’t “read” it, it’s essentially Bing (flat tone) Chee (rising tone) Leen (rising tone).
John Cena’s pronunciation is way off as is typical and nearly unintelligible but he gets a pass because he’s a celebrity and he’s white. Referencing Mark Zuckerberg’s awful speech about a decade ago. So cringey." -
