I’d argue that enough Americans believe it was that our democracy has suffered as though this is true, whether true or not. Truth has no jurisdiction over half of us. She's too weak to lead our nation anywhere.
Let’s extract from this a broader inquiry:
If a majority of a population believes their power structures are illicit or illegitimate in their deciding or management, does truth make a difference? Or is the problem rather upgraded to the status of something more ontologically demanding than that, both of the people and for their power structures?
