Have either of your parents died yet?

2017-06-30 at 8:15 AM UTCSo, my dad was 49 he died. I was with him the night before , in hospice, as he laid dying.
As it were told, the next night I got really drunk and went to the casino with my buddy.
As we're driving there, I get the call. My mom tells me 'He's gone.'
I was drunk. I said, OK. I hung up. I knew.
I went to the casino and tried to ignore it, the reality. I knew it was gonna happen.
My only regret is not getting blackout drunk that night.
By the way, Dargo, I was a full-fledged Christian at this time , if you want to ask me anything.

Ah. Well, hey. At least you're employed and own your own company. She could have a lot worse for a son. You seem alright. -

Sorry for your loss. Why did he die, and were you close? -

I was in a Christian based treatment program when it happened , although I was on a temporary leave when it HAPPENED.
I sort of knew it was coming, but yes, it changed everything.
I actually fasted for a WEEK, and prayed my heart out, just prior to this, begging God with all my heart to heal my dad, to make him better. -

Treatment for what? And yeah, I can understand why you're upset God didn't make him better. Loss sucks. -

I was a Christian at the time.
A pastor did come to him and talk to him in his last days.
Before he died, when I was with him, he told me, and I'm sure this isn't uncommon, "I love you, I'll miss you, (and) I'll see you again."
My dad was never an acclaimed Christian. He went to church rarely, to appease my mom. MY father was a very analytical man, scientific, one to question.
So, as a Christian at the time, and speaking at his funeral, I loved, if nothing else , the idea that he "found Jesus" and was/is resting in heaven.
I have since changed my belief and believe he, as well as I, is/ will be nothing more than dead. -
2017-06-30 at 9:16 AM UTCIs that what made you change your mind about Christianity?
And in a way you're right if he wasn't a Christian. The worst that happens is he burns up in hell, then ceases to exist. There's no eternal suffering or whatever. -

No, it's not at all. I was at the time, and remained a Christian for about 3 more years.
I'm curious, what reference do you have to burning up in hell and ceasing to exist? What does that even mean? -

Why does god give an infinite punishment for a finite lifespan? Why doesn't he show true compassion by allowing them to attempt to atone for their sins? How does the system work, is there some sort of universal system reminiscent of karma where people receive positive and negative values for their actions, possibly with some actions guaranteeing hell? Are their conditions taken into account? For example, if one person with the worst childhood imaginable and multiple disorders, very unfortunate circumstances, committed the same crime, murder, as a privileged rich boy, would they both receive the same outcome, or if it automatically condemns them to hell, would a crime that doesn't do so receive the same negative value judgment? How do you know the inner workings of the system, does it state of all of this in the bible? -

That's quite the relief. I was always told you burn forever and ever. An endless shit storm of forever suffering and never ending torment. Glad when I burn it's only a temporary thing SRS. -

What post are you referring to?
I seem to have dominated that thread with awesome questions. -
2017-06-30 at 9:32 AM UTCI was just explaining why suffering in hell isn't eternal, since that's what I thought you asked.
