The public is either conscious to the fact, or has been persuaded by arguments that the Iraq war was based on lies. They are now overwhelmingly of the opinion that the government lies to the people everyday in order to have public opinion as closely aligned as possible to government policy to reduce the instances of social and political unrest.
In this context, there are government announcements playing off this to attempt to appear to be of the same frame of mind as the people. This is psychological manipulation.
There are regular discussions that the state of affairs we live in is worse than 1984, worse than Soviet Russia and even student newspapers saying the western media lies about the true state of North Korea, and that it is so poor because of sanctions and it has no where to export to, preventing it from having a manufacturing industry, meaning it has to import anything resembling a luxury good, such as basic goods including candy.
The government is playing off these sentiments to promote public trust, or alternatively, to hammer the point home to the initiated.
As a side note, do you REALLY think the government would let us elect who we want to make the decisions for them, considering their 20 year plans and career diplomats, career soldiers, career economists etc? Of course not. They will choose who is most trustworthy to be a team player and sign off on what they demand and make statements they demand to effect public discourse and world events as they demand.

The whole world would be talking about propaganda, war based on lies for power, hegemony and oil as well as America having global domination aims, caring nothing for innocents who die as collateral damage.
The shift would be boomer to neocon to Nazi.
America would be completely and utterly destroyed. All over the world. It would be sanctioned.
However, America is pulling the wool over our eyes in coordination with allied governments. They will protect this charade.
Because the world is a good place and we need to make sure it stays that way.
This is what we believe. What if we have been lied to this whole time?
Your life is the equal of a North Korean soldier to the government if you join the army. You're dying for lies to enhance government power and corruption.
Your life is equal to a gangbanger if you're a cop. You're both scaring civilians in to submission and conformity.

As you can see the American culture that Hollywood and politicians espouse is strong in this one. He probably works 9-5 and goes out three times a year, excluding work Christmas parties. But that sense of belonging he gets when he feels patriotic is such a strong drug he's so high he forgets he has no life and believes all the bullshit.
