https://itep.org/amazon-has-record-breaking-profits-in-2020-avoids-2-3-billion-in-federal-income-taxes/Amazon’s tax avoidance is consistent. Over the past three years, Amazon paid an effective federal income tax rate of just 4.3 percent on U.S. income. Over the past 10 years, Amazon’s effective federal tax rate on $57 billion of U.S. pretax income was just 4.7 percent, especially remarkable given that the legal rate was 35 percent for most of this period.
For any other company, $1.8 billion of current federal income taxes would be interpreted as a sign the company’s tax accountants had taken the year off. But in Amazon’s case, the $1.8 billion the company paid is overshadowed by the $2.3 billion it did not pay last year. These unpaid taxes are especially troubling because Amazon’s pandemic experience is utterly different from the existential threats facing entire industries. Far more typical of the 2020 economy is companies reporting cratered sales and zero profits. In this setting, it’s vital that our tax system should perform as advertised, and when Amazon shelters more than half its profits from tax, our tax system is clearly in need of reform.
nevermind that after rebates and incentives, Amazon (among others) have actually paid NEGATIVE tax since Trump's 'reforms'.
and that's without going into how covid response was geared specifically to protect large corporations at the expense of smaller businesses.
https://inthesetimes.com/article/the-hq2-scam-how-amazon-used-a-bidding-war-to-scrape-cities-dataThat’s a question Amazon has been able to hold off for years. Since 2000, Amazon has been awarded subsidy deals worth at least $1.6 billion for data centers and warehouses, as it promises rapid shipping everywhere and constantly expands its cloud computing service. This number has been accelerating over time as Amazon has grown and made more promises; $230 million has come in just in 2018. Amazon just announced its 14th warehouse in the Inland Empire of California alone.
that $1.6 billion is just direct cash bribes for them to open offices and distribution centres in certain places - it doesn't count preferential treatment of beneficial policy or the like, or as described in the article, confidential city planning data that gives them huge advantages over competitors.
your tax dollars (well, not yours obviously) going into already-massive companies so they can be employed as economic soft power. -

what Amazon is doing is completely legal. Blame that moron Trump that you have endorsed for that. His legislation effectively allowed big business to rape the system. -

they've been doing it since before Trump and they're continuing to do it now because they are a useful asset to the government.
like I said, they're being effectively subsidised to create a monopoly. -

There is no monopoly. They have plenty of competition. If they raise their prices too high people will buy from Walmart, instead. U have no idea wut ur talking about, like usual. -
