I haven't changed my narrative on the 4k,8k thing..the human eye can discern up to 12k..JUST THE FACTS MA'AM. (and possibly beyond depending on the display size as mentioned).

Its not too bad these days. Look at some projectors in the 2kUSD range to see what they offer. Compare advertised specs to tested specs to see what is out there these days. Seems like ~1.5k will give you a ~2000:1 (tested, not advertised) ratio with ~20ms input lag (also tested), 3.6k lumen brightness, and decent lens adjustment options.
p.s. the above mentioned specs are good enough for what I use it for; a computer monitor for a mixture of random use.
