My guess is if it works on the phone but not the PC due to login attempts it's some sort of weak cookie based method of tracking, so next time just clear your cookies and you should be good to go.
I'm basing this on the fact it didn't track across devices, which suggests it's not, say, an SQL entry tracking login attempts.
